Roman Seas Model Construction
Roman
Seas PDF models are designed to be printed onto 67lb (147gsm)
card stock, which is readily available from many shops such as Staples,
Office Depot etc. To construct our own models, which we now take to
our gaming club and to conventions, we printed the models onto 20lb inkjet
paper, and then took these printouts to Staples, where we had laser copies
made, also onto 20lb paper. We then took the laser printouts and spray
glued them onto 67lb card stock, and then made our models from these.
You should not use paper greater in weight than 80lbs as the card stock
will result in too tight of a fitting between parts and will result in
an unsatisfactory model. The benefits of using laser printing over ink printouts is that
the final results will resist water, although you can spray ink printouts with various commercially available varnishes that
will make them semi-water resistant.
If you are in doubt as to what construction/paper method
to use, or how a model goes together: read the instructions that come with the navy sets, and experiment to see what works best for you -- printout a few
ships models in grayscale and then test build a couple until you are comfortable with
your results.
Completed Roman Seas Models
Once your Roman Seas ship models completed, we recommend that you mount them onto
heavy card (matting or illustration board). Once mounted onto heavy card, your final modeling results are superior
in strength to pewter/metal/resin models.
